The factors contributing to performance in sport are continually being investigated by sports scientists and athletes. While some people would argue that a person’s physical attributes determines their level of performance in sport, I believe that mental conditioning is also a highly important factor.
On one hand, it is undeniable to say that a person’s physical characteristics play a major role in their performance in sport. In some sports, being able to run extremely fast, or lift or throw something very heavy is one of the main aspects of the sport. Without a strong physical body, and high level of coordination, people would not be able to perform to a high level. Take many Olympic sports for example. In the 100m sprint, athletes need to have powerful legs in order to be able to run at high speeds. There is of course some mental conditioning needed, but without strong legs, you cannot compete at a high level. Another good example is Olympic weightlifting. The basis of being able to lift extremely heavy weights is powerful, conditioned muscles.
However, high levels of strength and fitness are not the only factor that allows athletes to perform well. To be able to consistently perform at a very high level, athletes also need to be mentally strong. Professional athletes in particular need to have the determination and focus to be able to continually train and perform for many years, despite the many setbacks that they may face, such as injuries and loss in competition. Being able to mentally focus and concentrate whilst under pressure during a competition is also extremely important. For example, maintaining composure whilst being surrounded by thousands of screaming fans when trying to kick the winning penalty kick in a football match would be extremely difficult, and this is where mental strength is highly important.
In conclusion, although physical strength and ability are highly important in sports performance, mental strength and focus also play an important role, particularly when it comes to elite athletes and high levels of performance and competition.

People are consuming more and more sugar-based drinks such as soft or energy drinks. I will discuss a number of reasons for this as well as several ways to encourage people to reduce their consumption of such drinks.
There are two main reasons why sugar-based drinks are consumed in large amounts everyday. Firstly, such drinks provide extra energy, increase mental alertness and help consumers to maintain high concentration necessary for their work. Most modern jobs are becoming more and more demanding and require people to spend greater effort to succeed, consequently leading to the popularity of sugar-based drinks. Secondly, the increased consumption of sugar-based drinks is linked to consumers’ lack of awareness and knowledge of a healthy diet and lifestyle as well as the dominance of fast food in the food industry. That is why sedentary lifestyles and convenient but nutrient-poor meals which include sugar-based drinks like Coca-Cola or Pepsi are being favored by a large number of people.
Although reducing the consumption of sugar-based drinks is a complex task, there are a few ways that could be done to discourage people from using those drinks regularly. One instance is to impose higher taxes on the production and distribution of sugar-based drinks, which inevitably increases their price. This may have an effect on the amount of such drinks being consumed. Another thing is that there should be more educational propagation campaigns that encourage people to follow healthy dietary guidelines and lifestyles and to refrain from using sugar-based drinks.
In conclusion, the problem of people having more and more sugar-based drinks is caused by a number of factors as discussed in the essay. Increasing taxes on sugar-based drinks and running propagation campaigns to raise consumers’ awareness of their health are two feasible solutions to combat such problem.
Soft or energy drinks: Nước ngọt hoặc đồ uống năng lượng (bò húc)
The consumption of sugar-based drinks: Sự tiêu thụ của đồ uống có đường
To increase mental alertness: Tăng cường sự tỉnh táo
To maintain high concentration: Duy trì sự tập trung cao độ
One’s lack of awareness and knowledge of a healthy diety and lifestyle: Sự thiếu nhận thức và kiến thức về một chế độ ăn uống và lối sống lành mạnh
The dominance of fast food: Sự thống trị của đồ ăn nhanh
Sedentary lifestyles: Những lối sống ít vận động
Convenient but nutrient-poor meals: Những bữa ăn tiện lợi nhưng ít dinh dưỡng
To impose higher taxes on something: Đánh thuế cao hơn lên cái gì
The production and distribution of sugar-based drinks: Sự sản xuất và phân phối đồ uống có đường

Many people believe that reading books is more beneficial for children compared to watching TV or playing computer games. Personally, I completely agree with this opinion and will analyze my point of view in the essay below.
To begin with, children can better improve their imagination through reading books in comparison with watching TV or playing games. By reading stories, children have to use their imagination to create a vision and visualize all events described by words in the book. While reading, they will create images, thoughts and opinions in their mind, thus enhancing their imagination and creativity. Meanwhile, this can hardly be the case for watching TV, as TV already provides them with the full image and vibrant colours. Consequently, it is reasonable to say that reading books help children produce more imaginative responses compared to watching TV.

In recent years, online shopping has gained more and more popularity all over the world. This tendency has several impacts on the environment and on various jobs related to electronic commerce.
The rise of online shopping is both beneficial and harmful to the environment to some extent. One obvious benefit of this trend is that it can help reduce the number of private vehicles travelling to brick-and-mortar stores since orders of customers from different locations can be grouped and delivered to homes at once. This will eventually lessen a great deal of exhaust fumes which is one of the causes of air pollution. However, if people are encouraged to shop online more, more plastic wastes will be released to the environment, especially water body such as rivers and oceans. This, as a consequence, will do harm to natural habitats of numerous marine species and worsen the problem of environmental pollution.
The growth of e-shopping has also brought both negative and positive impacts on people’s employment. On the one hand, this trend has created a variety of work opportunities for people, especially for those who major in information technology. To maintain an e-store, there will be a need for many kinds of jobs such as database administrators, web designers, delivery drivers, etc. On the other hand, when e-shopping is becoming more and more popular, an influx of people working at traditional retail stores might lose their jobs and face unemployment. This will place a huge burden on the government to create alternative jobs for these individuals, which might take a long time and require a large amount of budget.
In conclusion, online shopping impacts the environment and the labour market in both positive and negative ways.

While some people say job satisfaction is more essential than job security, there are those who claim that a permanent job is of greater significance. This essay discusses both sides of the argument and why I believe job satisfaction plays a more important role than job security.
On the one hand, some people believe a permanent job is more important because of the stability and credibility it brings. In terms of finance, workers with a permanent job know exactly their monthly income, and thus are in full control of their financial plan. As a consequence, they will no longer have to worry about short-term financial problems, such as bills and debts, and could be fixated on other important matters like their career trajectory. In addition, staying loyal to one job results in higher credibility, as many employers view prioritizing job security as an indicator of organizational commitment. Gaining the trust of employer opens many opportunities for promotion and additional perks, be it bonuses or extra day-offs.
On the other hand, there are several reasons why job satisfaction is believed to be more important than job security. A worker gains satisfaction when his needs and desires are fulfilled. For example, Google provides gym, climbing walls, or video gaming machines in most of its offices to suit different needs and desires of its employees. Once satisfied, workers are less likely to suffer from work stress or burnout, enhancing productivity and employee morale. As for employers, keeping their employees satisfied is an effective way to reduce turnover rate. A person who is satisfied with their job is less likely to be job seeking, and making it easier for companies to recruit and retain talents.
In conclusion, while some people believe job security plays a more significant role because of financial stability and work credibility, I side with those who believe the importance of job satisfaction exceed that of job security, as satisfied employees are more likely to be more productive and committed to the organization.

It is argued that there is no use in reading newspapers and watching news programs on television because news is irrelevant to people’s daily lives. From my perspective, I somewhat agree with this point of view because although I believe there is a connection between news and people’s lives, reading newspapers and watching news on television is pointless.
To begin with, I disagree that news do not have any sort of connection to everyday life. By definition, news are information or reports about recent events and are often categorized into different topics, each of which will attract a certain group of audience. For example, sport-minded people will be interested in reading sport news, while businessman will be more concerned with economic news. In other words, human’s interests in various fields will always be the glue that links news with people’s lives no matter what.
Although news is connected to people’s lives, I do believe reading newspapers or watching television news programs is a waste of time. We can read up to thousands of articles every day, yet very few of them help us make better decisions for our life, business or career. For example, weather forecasts and political news do not affect most of us. In addition, news produces news that captures viewers’ attention since the human brain reacts disproportionately to different types of information. Scandalous, shocking or people-based news, which often hold little value, stimulate us and consume a large amount of our time although we barely learn anything useful out of them.
In conclusion, I argue against the statement claiming that news has no connection to people’s lives because news reports what people are interested in. However, I firmly agree that reading news is a waste of time since it does not help people make better decisions and the media is biasing a large amount of non-helpful news.
Categorized: phân loại.
Sport-minded: quan tâm thể thao.
Capture attention: thu hút sự chú ý.
Disproportionately: không đều.
Some people claim that attending a performance live gives more delight and pleasure than watching the same events on screen. In my opinion, I somewhat disagree with this conviction because each situation is more enjoyable than one another to different kinds of audiences.
On the one hand, going to live performances is more enjoyable to some groups of people. First, sociable audiences prefer to attend these events to enjoy a feeling of togetherness. During a concert or a sports game, people could dance and chant together, which is a stimulating experience for outgoing individuals. Besides, attending live performances gives the audience a chance to have personal interactions with their favorite artists or athletes. For many people, the difference between interacting with their idols in real life, which is a much more pleasant experience, and through a TV screen is as different as night and day.
On the other hand, watching the same events on television is more enjoyable for people with certain characteristics. First of all, television broadcast suits those who want full control of their surroundings when they watch a performance. To be more specific, home viewers could adjust the positions of the seat or the television to their liking, whereas a live event usually only allows the audience to stay in a fixed seat. Furthermore, television audiences are also bothered by fewer distractions than live audiences. For example, people who just want to focus on the performance could avoid attending live events, where noise coming from exciting fans could easily distract them and disturb their experience.
In conclusion, I reiterate my disagreement with the opinion stating that going to a live performance is more enjoyable than watching the same event on television. While extroverted people and those who want to meet their favorite artists or athletes would prefer to attend live performances, Television broadcast is more preferable for those wanting either no distraction or a full control of their surroundings.
Feeling of togetherness: sự hoà mình với đám đông.
Have personal interaction: có tương tác cá nhân.
Distractors: thứ gây mất tập trung.
Disturb their experience: ảnh hưởng trải nghiệm.
